Why Us
Why Choose Waterloo Spray Foam Insulation
We check the depth of the foam as it goes on, and that habit is the heart of how we work. Foam only performs at the thickness it was sold at, so a probe goes into the fresh foam in several spots on every wall, rafter bay and rim joist before we move on.
The same check happens in a 1920s brick house near Uptown and in a new build in Vista Hills. Your signed scope spells out which foam, how many inches and how many square feet, and the finished work matches it. You can read how we plan each job or send us a note from the contact page for a callback.
Attic spray foam insulation is how we keep warm air from rising out of upstairs rooms, by sealing across the attic floor or coating the roof boards from below. It is the quickest way to cut ice dams and cold upstairs bedrooms.
Basement spray foam insulation grips the concrete itself, so humid air never touches the cold wall. It keeps the room warmer in winter and stops the damp smell in summer.
Closed cell spray foam sets hard and blocks moisture, while open cell foam is soft and costs less per inch. Putting each in the right place gets the most value from the job.
Wall spray foam insulation packs the stud cavity from side to side, so there are no gaps for cold air to move through. It is the best way to insulate an outside wall when you have the drywall or plaster off.
With closed cell foam on the rim joist, the wooden band between floor frame and concrete stops leaking air. It takes one day and makes a big difference to basement comfort.
New home spray foam insulation wraps a new build's walls, rim joists and roof in one step. It helps builders reach the tighter energy and air leakage targets in the current Ontario code.
Garage spray foam insulation lets you work in the garage all winter and takes the chill off the bedroom over it. It seals the walls and ceiling against cold air and moisture in one step.
Commercial spray foam insulation seals the roof, walls and slab edges of a business building in one step. It keeps work space at a steady temperature and cuts heating and cooling costs.
Choose a part of the building, enter how many square feet it covers, and a typical Ontario price band shows up. Send those figures over and a free visit firms them up into a written quote.
Treat these as typical Ontario prices rather than a quote. Access, depth and prep work move the final figure, and jobs under about $1,500 are priced at that minimum.

Have us out to the house, and we will measure, read moisture levels and point out exactly where the heat slips away, free of charge.
For ice dams, we recommend attic spray foam insulation more than any other fix. When warm air leaks up through pot lights, bath fans and the attic hatch, it warms the roof deck and thaws the snow from underneath. That water freezes again over the cold eaves and creeps under the shingles.
Waterloo averages close to 160 cm of snowfall a year, about five feet, so there is plenty on the roof to melt. Sealing either the ceiling plane or the roof sheathing with foam holds that heat indoors. Our attic insulation page explains both methods.
Thin Spray Foam Insulation Is The Most Common Problem We Find
The fault we find most in existing foam is a layer thinner than it should be. A wall sprayed at one inch when two were quoted loses close to half of its R-value, and nobody can tell by looking at it.
That is why depth checks are part of every job we do. If you already have foam that seems thin, cracked or pulled away from the studs, we can inspect it and give you an honest answer on what it needs.
Basement Walls Get Damp In A Humid Summer
Basement spray foam insulation keeps humid summer air off the cool concrete. In July the air in Waterloo is warm and wet, while the foundation stays cool from the ground around it. That moisture lands on the wall, gets into the old batts and starts to smell.
Closed cell foam sprayed right onto the concrete keeps that damp air off the concrete. See our basement insulation page for prices and the steps we follow before framing goes up.
Closed Cell And Open Cell Spray Foam Do Different Jobs
Closed cell spray foam is hard, blocks moisture and rates between R-6 and R-7 an inch. Open cell foam is lighter and lower in price, rating between R-3.5 and R-3.8 an inch, and it lets vapour through. We use closed cell on concrete, rim joists and roof decks, and open cell where sound and budget matter more.
Century Brick Homes Near Uptown Need A Careful Wall Plan
Wall spray foam insulation in an older brick house needs a plan that respects the brick. Mary-Allen, MacGregor-Albert and the streets around Uptown hold brick homes built between about 1880 and 1940, often with no insulation in the walls at all.
We usually spray from inside during a renovation, once the old plaster is off. The wall insulation page explains how we keep a gap to the brick so it can dry.
Student Rental Houses Lose Heat Through Old Basements And Attics
Rental houses near the two universities often have bedrooms in the basement and thin insulation in the attic. Northdale and the streets off Albert Street and Lester Street are full of post-war houses that have been rented to students for decades.
Landlords tell us the same thing every winter: the basement rooms are cold and the gas bill is high. Closed cell foam on the concrete and the rim joists fixes both, and the summer gap between tenants is a good time to book it.
Drafts Along The Basement Ceiling Come From The Rim Joist
Rim joist spray foam insulation stops the draft you feel along the top of a basement wall. That wooden band resting on the foundation is the rim joist, and in most Waterloo houses built before the 1990s it has only a loose batt stuffed against it, or nothing at all.
Two inches of sprayed closed cell makes it airtight in one pass. Our rim joist page covers the details.
New Custom Homes Face Higher Insulation Targets
New home spray foam insulation helps a builder meet the stricter energy targets in the current Ontario code. New homes in Vista Hills, Clair Hills and on custom lots in Beechwood are built to tighter air leakage and insulation numbers than houses built even ten years ago.
Spraying the walls, the rim joists and the roof with foam makes those numbers easier to reach. Builders can find scheduling details on our new home insulation page.
Cold Garages Make Hobby And Storage Space Hard To Use
Garage spray foam insulation makes a cold garage a space you can use all winter. It also keeps the room above the garage warmer, which is a common complaint in Laurelwood and Columbia Forest homes. See the garage insulation page for prices.
Offices And Tech Space Need Steady Temperatures
Commercial spray foam insulation keeps offices, labs and small units at a steady temperature. Waterloo has a large insurance and tech economy, and those buildings are full of people and equipment that do not like drafts or hot spots.
Spray Foam Insulation Prices Start With The Square Footage
Most residential spray foam insulation in Ontario costs from $2.50 up to $7 a square foot. The lower figures belong to open cell. Roof-deck closed cell and cramped crawl spaces push toward the top figure. The smallest job we book is around $1,500.
Use the estimator here for a rough range. The price we put in writing after visiting is the real number.
Store-Bought Foam Kits Rarely Reach Full Depth
Foam kits from the hardware store work for sealing a few small gaps. For a whole wall or ceiling they usually leave foam that is too thin, too cold or mixed off-ratio. Foam that was mixed wrong may shrink, split or smell, and the only fix is to cut it out and start again.
Spray Foam Insulation In A Living Space Needs A Covering
Spray foam insulation in any room where people live or work gets covered once it cures. Half-inch drywall is the usual choice in basements, walls and garages, and an attic or crawl space that nobody uses often needs only a thin sprayed coating.
We name the covering in the quote, so your drywaller or contractor can plan for it. Nobody is surprised by an extra step after the foam goes in.
Winter Jobs Go Ahead Once The Surface Is Warmed
Foam can be sprayed in a Waterloo January as long as the wood or concrete is warm enough for it to bond. We check the surface with a thermometer first, and in a cold basement or garage we run heat until the reading is right.
That step keeps winter spray foam insulation from shrinking or pulling away from the framing later. It also means you do not have to wait for spring to fix a cold room.

Frequently Asked Questions
Most basements, rim joists and garages take one day. A full attic roof deck or a whole house of walls may need two to three days, and the written quote gives you the timeline.
Yes, for the spray day and usually 24 hours after. We set up fans to move air outside, and we tell you exactly when it is fine to come back.
No. Foam in a living space has to be covered, and the normal cover is half-inch drywall. An attic or crawl space often needs only a thinner coating.
No. Foam keeps humid air off the concrete, but water coming through a crack needs to be repaired first. We check for active leaks at the free visit.
Closed cell rates between R-6 and R-7 an inch, and open cell between R-3.5 and R-3.8. Multiply by the depth on your quote to get the R-value of each area.
